Posted in Film School Essays by Derek S. I was really looking forward to Christmas break, where I could finally see some real, normal films instead of the masturbatory arthouse crap that Professor Carageorge peddles on a regular basis. And what better way to combat the pretentiousness of film school with Steven Spielbergs War Horse , a good holiday-time film from one of the greatest filmmakers ever? Boy, was I wrong. This is easily the worst film Spielberg has ever made, probably even worse than that one where Tom Hanks plays a Russian guy or something who wanders around an modern examples airport. Since I can barely remember that one, War Horse will have to do, since its the globalization, worst kind of pandering end-of-the-year Oscar-bait from modern tragedy a filmmaker who is talented enough to not have to sink to that level. Essay Example? Because surely Spielberg doesnt have enough Oscars already, does he? Boring, unimportant shit happens in examples War Horse for almost two and a half hours, but theres plenty of panoramic sunset shots set to soft flute music by globalization for kids, John Williams so it must be good, right? As I said, not only do completely unimportant things happen throughout this movie, theyre stretched out to an unbearable two and a half hours of running time. The main problem with this movie is its main character.

Whos the tragedy, main character, you might ask, since there arent any famous actors. As a matter of fact, its the marketing, horse, believe it or not. Yes folks, Spielberg has finally lost his mind and gave an animal top billing. The story is about a horse who is modern examples raised by a boy in a small Irish village right before World War I, before being sold to an English officer and globalization for kids, sent to modern examples the front, where the horse then changes owners several times. Spielberg was probably thinking it would be neat to have a horse as a protagonist. The problem with this, however, is that the goddamn horse is for kids a protagonist . A protagonist (and I learned this in films chool so I know Im right!) is tragedy examples a character who has a problem or a goal that they have to accomplish from the hut south, beginning of the film and tragedy, changes and grows in some way at the end. Tribal? Humans can and regularly do exactly this all the time, so they tend to make ideal protagonists. Horses, on the other hand, are not humans. They dont have human emotions, they dont have feelings or goals or aspirations.

Theyre just big dumb animals who do what theyre told. Apparently, there#039;s acting going on in this shot or something. The writers of this film, not to mention the characters, dont seem to think so, however. So not only do we get so many shots of examples horses staring into the camera, or at other horses, supposedly acting, we get so many other human characters who dont really get their own stories, because theyre all going moist over equiano, how supposedly wonderful this horse is. Modern Tragedy Examples? Entire suspenseful scenes are built around whether or not this stupid horse can do something most horses can usually do.

Will the boy teach the horse how to plow a field? Really, we need to see this conflict drawn out for a half hour? Horses are supposed to plow! Thats like watching a scene where a farmer teaches a cow how to produce milk! Can this horse outrun another black horse during a horse race? Who gives a shit? Later on, during the World War I scenes hundreds of pizza hut target menu people die horrific deaths, but oh no, does the goddamn horse make it out okay? Really, if you see this movie, ask yourself if the modern examples, horse honestly changes and grows as a character from the beginning to pizza hut south ealing the end of this film, or if it just stays being the same dumb horse it was before. Remember Charlootes Web? That book about the pig whose afraid to modern examples get slaughtered, so the spider makes a bunch of Odysessy example webs that say how great the pig is? And all the stupid humans believe this otherwise completely ordinary pig is all of a sudden some wonderful miracle, simply because they see spider webs that arbitrarily say so?

Imagine how dumb the people in War Horse must be if they go on about how remarkable the horse is without the modern, use of magic webs that say Some Horse! The sad truth that this movie fails to acknowledge is A Lifetime Odysessy that its not realistic at all for tragedy examples, this horse to be so built up as much as he is. No soldiers in their right mind would organize a truce on the front lines just to rescue a horse. For Kids? They would have killed the modern examples, horse, kept on killing each other and animal, then taken the dead horse to the glue factory. Even if the horse had somehow survived all the things it went through, no one gives a shit enough about horses, especially in light of the horrific slaughter all around them, to exalt them as much as they do, for pretty much no reason at examples, all. Its really hard to globalization say what he was thinking when he cast a horse in his film. Maybe he thinks its going to examples be the for kids, first movie where a non-human wins a best actor. Modern Tragedy Examples? But lets be fair, if were going for best non-human performances this year, Kermit the marketing, Frog acted circles around this horse in the Muppets, and Kermits not even technically alive. For your consideration. (aka not the modern, stupid goddamn horse) So the horse is stupid and lame, but I also went into this film thinking it might be a decent war movie.

Well, there are war scenes, I guess. A Lifetime Essay? Sadly the film is disappointing in this aspect as well. Modern Tragedy Examples? The battle scenes are bloodless and equiano, sanitized all throughout. During scenes where people and horses alike are executed by firing squads, Spielberg uses these cheap cutaway shots that hide the actual shootings, as if hes still in film school and he cant afford to film an actual shooting. The World War I scenes are also fairly thrillless. Random soldiers run around trenches and examples, barbed-wire ridden fields and are shot down by read animal online, invisible gunmen, falling to the ground like theyre fainting or out of breath or something, and meanwhile other soldiers fly through the air on pneumatic lifts when theyre hit by shells. Whats unfortunate is that Steven I film a war story of some kind after every time I take a shit Spielberg should know by now how to stage an impressive war scene, since, you know, he actually has a couple times.

He should know that when people get shot they bleed to tragedy death, and tribal marketing, that people get blown up to modern tragedy examples bits and lose limbs when theyre hit with shells and grenades. But since its a kids movie, he cant have any of that stuff in it. Pizza Hut South Ealing? Its a shame that he has made a sanitized, historically inaccurate version of World War I where the violence is nice looking and modern examples, not viseral or painful. Read Animal Online? But hey, if that gets him another Oscar then more power to him I guess. The other really disappointing thing about this movie is, for a film called War Horse, youd think there would be a lot of modern tragedy examples horse fatalities, but theyre really arent.

See, I have a bit of a bias going into this movie: I really hate horses. And I love movies where horses die. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Braveheart, and the Ring are some of my favorite films for exactly this reason. So I figured if Spielberg could at least make a good war film and slaughter a lot of horses then it would be worth it. Essay? Sadly that is not the case. The only good shot in the whole film is a panoramic view of modern tragedy examples hundreds of tribal dead horses shot on a field by gatling guns, but unfortunately you never see them get shot.

He does this lame thing where you see a shot of someone riding a horse, then it cuts to a gun, then the same horse without a rider. He even wastes an opportunity for a good ending, and doesnt let the horse butcher buy him in the end. Tragedy? Fuck this movie, Im going to see Tin Tin tomorrow, you know, the Spielberg movie coming out where people fight, things blow up, and actually exciting things happen. If I had my way, this is what the last shot of pizza menu War Horse would have been. ***The opinions expressed in the film school essays of Derek S. Modern Tragedy? are solely those of olaudah equiano notes Derek S. and do not necessarily reflect the tragedy, viewpoints of The Supreme Pancake.*** Drive is Boring and a Total Waste of Time. Dear Professor Carageorge, Im not entirely sure why youre making us keep a production journal, seeing as how I wont even be allowed to even touch a camera, let alone work my film idea until the end of next month. Im sure theres a good reason for Odysessy Essay, that, just like Im sure the department chair has a good reason for ignoring my emails. Until then though, the fact remains I have nothing to write about in modern tragedy examples my production journal since, you know, Im not producing anything yet. Well, I guess Ill write about a movie I saw.

I went on Rotten Tomatoes to see what was playing. Marketing? I usually like Jason Stathem movies but they said his latest movie was a bad one. Instead, I went to see this film called Drive. I had never heard of it but it had like a 95 rating on modern examples, the site so it must be good, and if Im getting into the film business soon I guess I should trust what the professionals say, right? Boy, was I wrong. This film is the most boring, overrated piece of asscheese Ive ever seen. Its directed by some no-name hack Ive never heard of named Nicholas Winding Refn. No, I didnt spell it wrong, thats his actual name if you can believe it. What the hut south, hell kind of a name is modern tragedy examples that?

Of all the possible cool-sounding directorial aliases you could think of, and you landed on Winding Refn? What the hell is a Refn, and tribal, how do you wind it anyway? What a dumbass? Nicholas Winding Refn? How about Nicholas Making A Film That Doesnt Suck Balls?

I tried to look up his discography but it looks like this is his first american film. Modern Tragedy Examples? Everything else I saw looked just as boring and was in A Lifetime Odysessy Essay Danish, and I hate reading movies so Im not watching them anytime soon. Maybe if a better director remakes them into modern tragedy, English, like what they did with Let Me In, then maybe I will. But thats a big maybe. For a movie that calls itself Drive, its the for kids, slowest, dullest driving movie Ive ever seen. This isnt one of those bad movies thats good for modern examples, a while but lets you down at the end. No, its a train wreck from the very first scene. In fact the pizza hut south, first scene may be the tragedy, worst part of the whole film. That would be true, however, if the rest of the marketing, movie didnt suck so much.

But anyway, let me explain. It starts off promising enough, with some guy talking to some robbers in modern examples a badass tough guy way about spark, how hes going to drive getaway for them. Examples? The guy, played by the guy from the olaudah, Notebook (I forgot his real name) (and no I never saw the Notebook, I walked into modern tragedy, the living room one day when my mom was watching it and I remembered what the guy looked like) is exactly that. Pizza? We never find out tragedy what his name is because the Odysessy Essay example, director never bothers to tell us. So that means I have to call him Notebook for tragedy, the rest of the pizza menu, review. So Notebook looks really badass and it looks like theres going to be a great chase coming up soon. But no, we never get that. The first danger sign is the car he uses. A Chevy Impala. A silver Chevy Impala. I wish I were joking.

There were at examples, least five way better cars than that in pizza the first ten minutes alone of Fast Five. A character even says that its a boring car, but Notebook shrugs him off like he doesnt care. And the other thing is, the cops instantly identify him as the getaway driver, so fat lot of modern good that Impala did for you buddy. So great. A chase scene with an Impala. But wait. Before we get to the getaway, we have to watch him wait for A Lifetime Essay example, the crooks to actually pull off the robbery. Modern Examples? He gives everyone he works for a five minute window before he drives off, so we actually have to wait a full five minutes before he drives off and does anything. Seriously?

You shot Notebook guy sitting in a car for five whole minutes and thought this was compelling stuff? Sadly, if you arent into sitting and olaudah spark, staring footage youre out of luck, as thats not even close to being all there is. Notebook wondering if he should start driving soon. Nice Impala, douche. So Notebook finally starts driving after a while. Does he haul ass and plow through the mean streets of LA, making cop cars crash into each other and wreck buildings?

No. He pokes around the alleyways and hides from the cops. Yes, he hides from them. What the hell? Its called Drive, not Hide, dipshit. Modern Tragedy? Maybe you should, oh I dont know, try doing a little of what the read animal farm online, title of your own film says. Do you think Fast Five made as much as it did because Vin Diesel dicked around with a police scanner and dropped his car off at a busy Lakers game?

No, he tore ass through the streets and didnt take any shit from anyone. Its a sure sign of trouble when the first thirty seconds of Fast Five are more riveting than the first fifteen minutes of this assheap. If Driving Miss Daisy has more exciting driving than your driving movie you should probably rethink the driving aspect of it. Tragedy Examples? I did see Driving Miss Daisy once but only because my mom made me watch it with the family one night. Farm Online? I hate my mom. (By the way you should really go out and see Fast Five if you havent. Before I thought that the modern examples, Fast and globalization for kids, the Furious was the best car racing movie ever made, but then I saw this installment and I changed my mind. I know the others werent that good and it seems like this one shouldnt be either but it looks like the fifth sequel to a franchise is what does the trick nowadays, just like the Fifth Final Destination movie that came out tragedy this summer. Anyway, back to tribal marketing stupid Drive.

I would go on, but unfortunately that one scene is the examples, only instance of driving in the whole movie! Its called Drive, and the only car scene has him hiding away like a coward from cops. The rest of the film is marketing divided into two halves. The first half is what I would describe as I Love This Girl So Much Because All Im Doing Is Staring At Her All The Goddam Time. Examples? So Notebook meets this girl who lives across the hall from him, and seriously all they do is sit around and equiano, smile at each other. Clearly the modern tragedy, director isnt very good at animal, editing. Some of modern tragedy these scenes go on for so long with such little motion that it wouldnt surprise me if they were still photos. Pizza? Theyre called motion pictures, Mr. Modern Examples? Refn. And oh yeah, youre movie is also called DRIVE. You might not realize it, but if you#039;re looking at this photo, you#039;re watching actual footage from Drive.

Add your own shitty eighties music. The rest of it is A Lifetime Odysessy example a little bit better, but not by much. Examples? Its a pretty generic crime/revenge movie where the bad guys try to double cross Notebook and he kills them all. Its not much more exciting than the animal, rest of the film (but at least he isnt staring at that goddamn girl anymore). The only really good part is one where Notebook stomps on a guys head in an elevator (oh yeah, after he makes out with the girl for like ten minutes straight while dumb eighties music plays). But even then you barely see any of the real violence, instead its just a shot of Notebook stomping on something in a corner.

Theres another part like that where Notebook puts on modern tragedy examples, this weird Mike Myers mask for no reason (and it also looks nothing like the A Lifetime Essay, actor who he works as a stunt double for, so whats the point?) (I forgot to modern examples mention that when hes not a getaway driver he works as a Hollywood stunt double). So you think that with this weird ass mask some heavy stuff is going down, but then he chases a bad guy into the water on globalization for kids, a beach and tragedy, the scene cuts away. Really? We just have to imagine that Notebook drowns this guy? Mr.

Refn needs to learn where to pizza hut south ealing put his camera if he thinks he has a shot at tragedy examples, making more films anytime soon. So in conclusion I definitely dont recommend Drive. Online? Its a boring film made by examples, an amateur no-name, who spent most of his budget not to make a good movie, but to pay off all the critics on animal, Rotten Tomatoes to give him good reviews. It just goes to show that film critics dont know everything, especially what audiences like nowadays, and I know Ill definitely trust my own instincts from now on. Basically, if films were prostitutes, Drive would be a prostitute who makes you pay for tragedy, actual sex and then only offer to give you a handjob, and then leave before she actually finishes it off. If all the swear words and sex references in this review are inappropriate, you should probably let us film something soon, since you know, were paying thousands of dollars a year to make movies. Till then, I guess I can write whatever I want in this production journal and itll have to be okay. Well, I have to go write this stupid paper on Battleship Potekmin. It just might be even more boring than Drive, and even worse, its in subtitles. I#039;ve never seen this movie before, but I bet you a million dollars it#039;s better than Drive. ***The opinions expressed in the film school essays of spark notes Derek S. are solely those of Derek S. and do not necessarily reflect the modern tragedy, viewpoints of The Supreme Pancake.***

The Tree of Life is the Worst Movie Ever Made. Dear Professor Carageorge, I finally saw the movie you wanted our class to hut south see and write about, Terrence Malicks The Tree of Life (I finally caught it at the local dollar theater, after being out for like five months and modern tragedy examples, not playing anywhere), and Im very sorry but I cannot write the pizza ealing, paper you want me to examples about it. Globalization? This is modern tragedy examples seriously the worst movie Ive ever seen in my whole life, and at this point Im frankly surprised you assigned this film for us to write about. I mean, dont get me wrong, you have obviously been a film school professor for a very long time and animal farm, Im sure you are very professional when it comes to stuff like this, but this was just unwatchable garbage, I mean this film wasted two and a half whole hours of my life that Ill never get back.

Although I guess I shouldnt be too surprised, you did make us watch Fata Morgana and that Paul Glabicki nonsense, but I was hoping that your taste in movies would get better as the class went on. So unfortunately, I cant really discuss the film and complete the modern examples, assignment, but I can explain why I thought this was a terrible waste of time and animal farm, hopefully you can come around to examples my way of thinking. The Tree of menu Life is basically two and a half hours of nothing. Seriously, no characters or plot or anything meaningful happens throughout the whole movie. Examples? Ill say it again, nothing happens at all! (thats not the title of a movie, thats just me using italics to pizza emphasize my point (although it could have been the title of this movie(!))).

First you have Brad Pitt as this guy in Texas and Brad Pitts wife who are sad because they find out examples that one of their sons dies, only you have no idea how (she just gets a telegram in the mail, how am I supposed to feel sorry for someone I dont even know if I dont even know what happened?). People whisper in voiceovers about marketing, how sad they are over this guy whose dead and we have no idea who he is, and tragedy examples, Sean Penn is I guess one of Brad Pitts sons but in olaudah spark the future time. Sean Penns sad about something too, but no one ever says why. Modern Tragedy? He just wanders around his workplace while some idiot behind the camera films everything with an extremely low angle. Why? Why is Sean Penn looking so powerful and imposing when there is clearly something wrong with him? We never know.

Clearly Terrence Malick needs to work on his camera angles and screen direction. Want to see this for a half hour? You should let your laptop run idle instead. Then it goes to ealing what could arguably be the worst part of the whole film. For no reason at all, Terrance Malick shows us like twenty minutes of all this swirly color footage and modern, the world on fire and alot of time lapse photography of the pizza hut target, world slowly evolving. Remember that movie 2001 ? Its like Terrance Malick thought to tragedy examples himself hey, why dont I make a big pointless homage to 2001 , except I wont homage the good parts, with the actual space voyage and spark notes, the talking computer, but the big long stupid boring part at the end. Modern Examples? Or maybe Mr.

Malick was sitting in front of his Macbook one day and he was inspired by the screensaver that popped up. And what does the universe have to do with Brad Pitt and his family? Nothing. It even shows dinosaurs (!). And I must say I have never been so bored with dinosaur footage as I was with this cinematic waste. Why go through all the trouble to make cgi dinosaurs if theyre not going to do anything cool like roar or eat other dinosaurs or stomp little cavemen underneath their huge dinosaur paws? Theres a part where a dinosaur sees another dying dinosaur, but all he does is stand over the dying one for like five minutes, stomp on pizza hut south, its head a couple times, and then it leaves. Wha? Was the dinosaur thinking about the ethics of examples eating another dinosaur?

Dinosaurs dont have philosophical quandaries, you morons! Theyre wild animals. Ive seen Jurassic Park and I read a few wikipedia articles on paleontology, and I know that if a real life dinosaur came across a dying dinosaur, he wouldnt hesitate. Hed chow down immediately, and gobble the whole thing right up. So its bad enough with all its other problems, now it has innacurate factology.

Just look at this picture for read online, a minute. There, I saved you the agony of watching dinosaurs stare blankly into the camera. After that pointless scene, we go back to Brad Pitt and his family. I can tell you what happens for the entire rest of the movie: Someone whispers in examples voiceover about something unimportant. Read Animal Farm Online? Then Brad Pitt shows up and acts like a nice father.

Then he acts like a total dick to modern one of his kids for no reason. Then those kids go out and tribal marketing, do something bad. Repeat for two more hours until the end. Thats it. Like I said, theres no plot at all, theres no point to anything. Examples? No one tries to Essay get anything or do anything, everyone just reacts to Brad Pitt acting like an modern tragedy examples asshole. Pizza Hut South? How come all the modern tragedy examples, other professors say its important that characters have to have goals and structure and hut target, whatever if this film clearly doesnt? And after what seems like an eternity (I wish I knew how long the running time going in was, this is yet another one of those movies that are so boring and so shoddily plotted that any point could be the wrapping-up point but they keep on going and tragedy, going and you just keep on wondering when its going to olaudah notes end), the movie finally (1) starts to end. But again this is just as pointless as the rest of the film. Tragedy? You start to wonder if Sean Penns character is finally going to globalization for kids have a point, or say something meaningful, but no.

Instead he inexplicably goes to this beach where everyone else in modern tragedy examples the film is hanging out and they all skip and prance along like theyre all happy and eveythings fine. Pizza Ealing? Then it ends. What? What did any of that even mean? I have to modern tragedy say Ive never been more disappointed and bored while watching a film than with this one. Pizza Hut South Ealing? I looked up Terence Malik on imdb, and I found out the modern examples, exact number of films he made. Animal Farm? In the span of about thirty years or so he only made about five or six or so. Maybe its because he knows hes so bad at making movies so after the tragedy, last film he makes he decides to quit and never make one again, and then years go by and he forgets how awful the last film was and decides to make another one. Thats the only logical reason I could come up with for his horrible cinematic output. Ive never seen any of the other ones, and after this abomination Im glad I didnt and I never will.

Ever wonder what watching a twenty-minute Valtrex commercial would be like? Just watch the ending to the Tree of Life. So in conclusion I have to pizza hut target menu say that I dont think you know what youre doing. I dont understand how could say this is tragedy good filmmaking and then snidely make fun of me along with the rest of olaudah equiano my classmates for thinking that Transformers:Dark of the Moon was the best film of the summer. It was a huge improvement over Revenge of the Fallen which wasnt that good admittedly. It had great action, as usual with those movies, and surprisingly effective performaces from Shia LeBeuf as well as seasoned veterans John Malkovich and modern tragedy examples, Frances McDormand. Shia LaBouf delivers a surprisingly nuanced performance, because he has saved the world twice already and cant get a good job and everyones pressuring him to get a good job. I can actually relate to globalization this movie, unlike Tree of Life, because my parents are cutting me off of examples my allowance and they want me to work at read animal farm, the school cafeteria. So like I said, in conclusion I dont think youre a very good teacher.

I think you talk big and put on modern tragedy, a big show like you know what youre doing, but when it comes to your real taste in films you totally fail. Ill be submitting another copy of this paper to the head of the film school department chair, and hopefully this will be enough evidence to have you removed from teaching ever again. If not, then its understood that I will be transferring to a different film production class next semester. Until then I hope you can be fair and give me a good grade for this paper, as this is the truth about for kids, The Tree of Life and I dont pull any punches and wrote what I honestly felt about it. Examples? This is America, and pizza hut south, people can have different but equally valid viewpoints and I hope you grade me accordingly and in modern this spirit of fairness and olaudah equiano spark notes, democracy.

Feminism/ History Of Feminism And Feminist Theory term paper 17715. History of tragedy examples, feminism and feminist theory. The history of feminism and of feminist theory has many possible origins. However the most plausible explanation for the origins of feminism and of feminist theory can be connected with the desire for social and political reforms . It is therefore necessary to focus on these social and tribal political reforms, by doing so it becomes possible to modern examples highlight the evolution of feminism ( as a form of ideology and a type of activism ). This evolution has not been without intense criticism, the A Lifetime Essay, most important critique of all feminist ideology states that due to the origins of feminism it is examples not an all encompassing political and animal farm online social movement . Tragedy! Instead however to is an tribal marketing, exclusive conservative white suburban theory , that blatantly excludes minority groups, such as black women, lesbians and the lower working class. If the primary goal of the feminist movement is to unite women in order to change a woman s position in society, then surely this goal would fail if minority groups are excluded ? To answer this question it is of fundamental importance to understand the modern examples, origins of the feminist movement and hence the marketing, rise of examples, feminist theory.

The feminist movement is olaudah notes primarily categorised into two different periods of time. The first period is known as First wave Feminism and occurred from 1760-1935. Within this stage there are five distinct time periods, with each time period playing an important role in the feminist movement. The origins of first wave feminism, especially in the US has often been traced to the abolitionist movement. The second period of the feminist movement , similarly to tragedy first wave feminism is that of equiano, Second wave Feminism . Modern Tragedy! Second wave feminism began approximately in 1963 (in the US) , with radical changes occurring in 1970 and continuing into the present. The history of second wave feminism has its origins in the civil rights movements. It is primarily during this time period that distinct feminist theory emerged. In order to analyse the origins of feminist theory , one must have a clear understanding of for kids, what distinguishes feminist theory from other kinds of theory (as well as the process of theory making). According to Alison Jagger there are four important elements that feminist theories possess: a descriptive element, the explanatory element, a normative element, and a practical element.1 It is important to understand these different components of feminist theory, in order to be able to modern tragedy examples critically evaluate the alleged exclusiveness of feminism. a. A Descriptive Element: this a a statement of the empirical facts,it is usually in. the form of descriptions of women s lived experiences and globalization for kids of the present day social arrangements, specifically the arrangements of power and its relationship to gender, as well as racial issues and class structures.2.

b. An Explanatory Element: this is an modern tragedy examples, explanation regarding the reasoning of why women have the experiences they do and why the arrangement of power and political standing is the way it is. c. A Normative Element: this is the recommendations for the elimination of possible inequalities that occur, whether it is in the social , political or economical sphere. d. A Practical Element: this is the Odysessy example, physical commitment to the transformation of social organisations and institutions based upon the normative elements of the theory.3. In the construction of feminist theory one important element needs to be considered. That is the element of FALSE UNIVERSALISATION. According to Jagger the definition of false universalisation is as follows: drawing a generalisation that falsely assumes and does not mark the race, class, gender, sexual orientation, of the group being discussed.

Applying a set of assumptions about a group to tragedy examples all members of that group. 4 When a person involves false universalisation in globalization, their theory or in examples, their activism, they are actually undermining all four of the globalization for kids, elements necessary for feminist theory. Modern Examples! Therefore, if one fails when describing women s lives to take account of the equiano, relevant differences, then one s explanations will probably fail to be adequate, one s recommendations for reforms will be incorrect, and penultimately one will fail to tragedy examples eliminate social inequalities. It is globalization according to the four elements that feminist theory should be analysed against, as well as the modern tragedy, possibility that false universalisation could have occurred in the construction of such thought. Unlike Jagger who believes that women must have their own gender identity, therefore their own gender ideology; Sally Alexander states that the core of feminism is always posed in terms of women s perceptions of themselves and their status in globalization for kids, relation to men 5. It therefore becomes apparent that there will be many discrepancies in feminist. theory , with some theories being more acceptable than others. Examples! Feminism strives to seek equality for women, yet as an ideology this conquest both succeeds on certain levels but as an all encompassing ideology seems to fail. II) First Wave Feminism. a) A brief overview of the First Wave:

First Wave Feminism can be loosely categorised , into for kids five periods: Late 18 th Century Feminism, Feminist Abolitionism, Declaration Feminism, Militant Suffragist Feminism, and, finally, Early Socialist/Marxist Feminism.6 There is chronologically no clear distinction between these five periods, the time periods seem to overlap into examples each other. Pizza Hut Target Menu! However it makes it possible to classify them into tragedy examples categories because of either one or two distinct characteristics. b) 18 th Century Feminism in Britain and the US: During this period feminist activism focused on three issues: the education of women, marriage and property rights, and, later, abolitionism. Feminist theory during this period was centred around the philosophical argument of the Enlightenment age. The theories attention was predominantly focused around the A Lifetime Odysessy example, issues of what women were by nature. Modern Examples! Therefore philosophical arguments presented the notion that women were, by marketing nature, different from men. 7 The majority of the modern tragedy examples, philosophers claimed that women lacked the capabilities and menu rationality that men had. Therefore women were unsuited to participate in political, social, and educational life. Women were connotated with four specific virtues: piety, purity, domesticity and submissiveness. Modern Examples! Due to philosophical thought and imposed virtues, women were considered to be unfit and incapable of owning property, to obtain work outside the institution of the home as well as to obtain an education equal to that of men.

It is therefore both the legal and social patriarchy that removed all the animal, rights of women. Predominantly the modern tragedy, English common law and the church, forced women into a position of social and political subordination. The House of Commons referred to women as the weaker sex a group that could not take care of themselves and without the read animal farm, help of men, women would experience. During the mid to late 18 th century the examples, French and American revolutions, presented new radical ideological changes. The most predominate thought was that all human beings possessed certain inalienable rights and freedoms. The Enlightenment philosopher Condorcet in 1787 , published a treatise on the rights of women. He stated that women had the same natural rights as men. During the French revolution of pizza menu, 1789, women were extremely active in the fight against the feudal regime.

In 1791 Olympe de Gouges published a declaration on rights of women. Modern! She was beheaded in 1793 , for her activism. There after all political activity,in France, for olaudah, women was banned.9 Besides de Gouges another prominent feminist activist was Mary Wollstonecraft her main focus was on the intellectual reform, through changing the education of women. Wollstonecraft focused her theory predominantly around the privileged class women. She compared this group of modern tragedy examples, women to members of the feathered race, birds confined to cages who have nothing to do but plume themselves. Globalization! 10 She believed that if men were placed in tragedy examples, the same position as women then they too would develop the same characteristics that women possessed. Most of Wollstonecraft s treatise reflect the globalization for kids, concerns of the elite women. Modern Examples! She demanded equal education , property rights, and marriage rights. It was the work of Wollstonecraft that set the rallying point of first wave theory and activism. Even if this theory did not apply to the majority of women who were in positions of subordination, as well as if this theory predominantly possessed false universalisation.

b) Feminist Abolitionism: Ellen DuBois states that there are two ways in tribal marketing, which abolitionist activism and thinking helped advance the modern tragedy examples, cause of feminism: 1) by highlighting for white, elite women who attempted to A Lifetime example engage in public anti-slavery activism the facts of their own limited acceptance in public life, and 2) by providing an arena in which women could learn effective techniques for social activism. As the abolitionist movement gained momentum, a strain of feminism emerged that was distinct and tragedy examples independent of the abolitionist position, though the two political movements remained effectively linked . From a feministic perspective the abolition movement was a chance for white intellectual women to become a part of abolishing slavery. Never once did the feminist movement consider the globalization for kids, plight of tragedy examples, black women, and the possible role that these black women could play in the promotion of women s rights. 11. It was the second generation of feminist abolitionists, who had learnt from the abolitionist movement how to effectively organise protests and marketing other forms of activism necessary for liberation. It was this group of women under the modern tragedy, leadership of Susan B.Anthony who would lead the next stage of the first wave. An important question should be raised at this stage in marketing, feminist theory development. If the first wave was the foundation for modern tragedy, feminist theory, then surely if black women were excluded (as group) especially during the Odysessy Essay, abolitionist campaign, from the formulating of feminist theory and activism , then all types of feminist theory thereafter would exclude them as well?

c) Declaration Feminism: In 1848 on July 19 th and 20 th the first women s right convention was held in Seneca Falls New York. The issues found to be of uppermost importance were: property rights women, equality in tragedy examples, marriage, free speech, amending divorce laws, access to equal participation in public labour. It was during this convention that Lucy Stanton proposed one of the most controversial resolutions to be included in the Declaration of Rights and olaudah equiano Sentiments, it demanded the examples, vote for women.12. d) Militant Suffrage in Britain and the US: Before this time, feminism had centred around the abolitionist movement, primarily for the reason that feminists viewed abolitionism as the perfect example of activism for liberation of equiano, a suppressed group. However when Stanton demanded the suffrage for women.

There was an immediate outcry and examples protest from the abolitionist movement, who had rallied on the support of the olaudah equiano notes, white middle class women and examples their influential husbands. The abolitionist movement considered the suffrage of tribal, black men to be far more important than that of the suffrage of half the population. It was the British suffrage movement lead by Emmeline Pankhurst, who focused their activism around a more a militant approach. Modern Tragedy! Their activism included public demonstrations and acts of vandalism, especially along commercial streets such as Bond Street and Regent Street. Pizza Hut South Ealing! The British movement was lead by the elite white women, who considered it the job of the elite to protest for the poor working classes. By doing so this elite group of women began alienating those below them on the social scales.13 Taking their cue from the British suffragettes, led by Carrier Chapman Catt, the suffrage movement in the US followed the same militant approach as the British movement.

However unlike the British movement that had completely changed from participating in passive activism to becoming a militant movement. The US continued to have two distinct branches of the suffrage movement. The first was lead by Elizabeth Stanton and Susan B. Anthony who focused increasingly on women suffrage, but were also concerned with broader based political reforms. This group of feminists did not excluded any specific group, instead its concerned embraced all women cross-cultrally.14 The second branch was that of the militants who s primary objective was to secure the suffrage for women. However these militant suffragists allowed white supremacist women to participate in their campaign.

By doing so they alienated moderate feminists and any feminists who were involved in the abolitionist movement. As a consequence of the militant suffrage movement, the tragedy examples, feminist movement would be split between those who desired a radical militant approach to reform and globalization those who followed the tragedy, influence of Marxist and Socialist doctrine. It would be this split that would cause the feminist movement to remain divided. Some feminists believed that the read farm online, militant approach was immoral because of the involvement of white supremacists and the exclusion of black women. While those who supported the militant approach, considered any other approach to be with out merit, and who accepted that reform was only possible through radical and militant protest.15. e) Early Marxist/Socialist Feminism: Capitalism itself is modern tragedy not just the larger social rules under which men are privileged over women, it is the Odysessy Essay, cause of women s oppression. 16 Unlike any of the other first. wave theories, early Marxist and Socialist doctrines were not concerned with the.

social insubordination of women but rather the economic stature and modern tragedy examples their position in relation to men. Essay Example! It was during the early 20 th century, with the result of increased industrialisation that concern arose around the working conditions of factory working women. Tragedy! Due to the increase of pizza, industrialisation Marxist communist and socialist ideals were gaining support, with union activism steadily increasing. Examples! With an increase in union activism, a direct result was the increase of participation of women in the unions. Spark! For this reason feminist leaders were forced to add the demand for equal pay to the feminist agenda. Modern Tragedy! However still lacking the for kids, ability to vote women participated in strikes and work stoppages, making them an influential group in these protest actions.17. Marxism and socialism provided a platform for the working women to protest against the economic inequalities that existed, especially in the factories. The plight of the factory women would be recognised with the outbreak WW II, where white middle classed women were forced to enter the industrial sector, and the poorer working women were able to take advantage of higher-paying skilled labour. However WW II would see the condemnation of any Marxist and Socialist thinking in the West.

Due to tragedy examples this decline, in pizza ealing, thinking, the feminist movement would have to reorganise its theoretical position, and move to a more liberal approach in its theory and activism. It can be noted that similarly to all other first wave movements and theory, this socialist approach only appealed to the white middle elite class. Again the examples, plight of black women was ignored. In the US, the suffrage for women was obtained in 1920. This however did not mark the end of feminism and the struggle for equality. Olaudah Equiano Spark! In the Declaration of Sentiments in 1848 a topic of protest that had been ignored , due to its controversy ; would find its foothold in modern tragedy, the second wave of feminism. That is the issue of contraceptives and abortion. iii) Second Wave Feminism. a focus on events in the US. a) Feminism and tribal marketing the Civil Rights Movement. Similarly to the first wave who s origins were in the abolitionist movement; second wave feminism has its origins in the civil rights movement.

Just as the abolitionist movement provided models for effective moral protest and civil disobedience. Likewise the civil rights movement in the late 1950 s and early 1960's provided an modern examples, example of non-violent resistance and civil disobedience.18. In conjunction with the civil rights movement a loose collection of formal and Odysessy Essay example informal organisations dedicated to the implementation of gender equality began to emerge during the 1960 s. These organisations can be classified into two different types. 1) Women s rights groups. 2)Women s liberation groups. These kinds of organisations differed with respect to their structure and their overall goals.19. 1.Women s rights groups. This is modern examples a formally organised organisation, which is dedicated to social reform through traditional legislative and political institutions. Its primary goal is for the recognition of the status of women as a social group. President Kennedy in A Lifetime Essay example, 1963, following the advice of Esther Peterson, convened a Commission on the Status of Women, naming Eleanor Roosevelt as its chair. The official report documented widespread discrimination in all aspects of examples, American life, and made 24 recommendations for guaranteeing equal treatment.

The most noticeable changes and reforms, were the pizza, equal pay act of 1963; civil rights act of 1964, the formation of NOW, and tragedy the publication of Betty Friedan s The Feminine Mystique in 1963. All theses reforms can be considered as a break through for feminism as a form of political activism. Unlike the first wave, these reforms were not only concerned with white middle class women , but rather with all women. Tribal! The civil rights act of. 1964, prohibited employment discrimination on the basis of sex as well as race, religion, and modern examples natural origin. During this, thousands of young women on college campuses were playing active roles within the anti-war and civil rights movement. However their efforts were often blocked by men, which lead them to olaudah equiano form their own liberation organisations.20. 2.) Women s liberation groups. These are loosely organised informal organisations. They do not believe in modern tragedy, using the existing political and legislative organisations instead, they focus on for kids consciousness raising , self- help and tragedy assertiveness training. These liberation groups are community based and try to achieve feminist reforms not through legislative change but rather through social changes and continual questioning of the patriarchal system.

An Example of such a group would be The New Left ( a civil rights group, formed on college campuses , focusing on for kids the liberation of black women in the civil rights movement.). b) Academic Feminism and Feminist theory. With the issues concerning the suffrage movement, and civil rights being dealt with, feminism was forced to shift its focus. It realised the inequalities that existed in education. Girls and Women were not receiving the same education as their gender counterparts.

The experiences of women as a social group were largely lacking from the curriculum. Therefore the desire for tragedy, equality led to read animal online the formation of women s studies department, and academic journals devoted to feminism and women s studies.21. Therefore with the development of these journals and publications, the formation of feminist theory became possible. However the problem that occurred first wave feminism became the main critique. of the second wave movement.
